Alan Hirsch on Cultural Distance

Alan Hirsch spoke at the 2010 Velocity Conference on February 22, 2010 at Mountain Lake Church in Cumming, Georgia. In this 47 minute talk, Alan deals in detail with the concepts of cultural distance, more of the same, and innovation and new forms of church. If you can get past the first 1.5 minutes, it is well worth the time to give it a good listen.

    Thanks for that link, Rick.

Alan brings, again, exactly the right word for me. We have to plant the gospel first and accept that the church will grow out of it. We have to listen to the brokenness of people in order to show them God’s love and grace in their need.

I am finding that I have had to be totally removed from the sphere of the 40% in order to feel the isolation of the 60%. It is a paradoxical place to be — which speaks to me of the Spirit’s presence.

Purple is, indeed, the right color for me.

Peggy, I never tire hearing from Alan. He has a way of defining things that I really enjoy. His point on why attractional church is only effective with the 40% is so clear.

Thanks Rick. I’m glad I took the time to watch it.

Peggy, that is exactly what stood out to me.

I was at Velocity and Alan was a breath of fresh of air. His message needs to be heard at more conferences such as this.
